Getting To The Island

Santorini is conveniently home to a small but well connected airport for a Greek Island of this size, simplifying your destination wedding travel plans. Transportation from the airport is available by bus, taxi, hotel pick-ups and rental cars, making it easy to get all of your guests to their hotels, please allow plenty of time for taxi transfers as Greek taxis on the island may well carry more than just yourselves as passengers and may transport other people on the same journey who are not in your party!

The airport offers chartered flights from other airlines during the summer and regularly scheduled flights include Olympic Air, Aegean Airlines, and Athens Airways.

There are several daily ferries that you can take from other islands and Athens, we advise that you book a transfer from the ferry port in advance as it can get incredibly crowded and the taxi operators based in the port will wait until they have a full mini-bus and will then drive all over the island before you might get to your hotel depending on where you are staying.

5 Travel Tips To Make Your Wedding A Success

  1. Santorini is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months. Cruise ships stop frequently, so if you wish to avoid the crowds consider planning your wedding in the spring or fall. The weather will still be beautiful, but the number of tourists (and the prices) will be lower.

  1. The Euro is Santorini's currency, so make sure you check out the exchange rate and update your credit card for travel. Most shops, restaurants, and hotels accept credit cards. Carrying a little extra cash is still a good idea, especially for tipping at some of Santorini's famous restaurants.

  1. Pick up a Greek language dictionary. Greek is the official language of the island and while some of the locals speak English, a few key phrases will go a long way towards making your trip a success.

  1. Embrace the Mediterranean cuisine and sample as much as you can while on the island. The coast boasts a variety of pricey restaurants aimed at tourists, so be sure to also wander inland for a taste of the local cuisine.

  1. The volcanic soils of the island create red, black and white sand beaches. While you wait for the wedding, be sure to check out a few of these beautiful beaches to get the complete Santorini experience.
